Premium Review Batman: Hush - Jeph Loeb: A Spoiler Free Review of Batman: Hush Volume 1 (314 words)

The first time I read Hush I wasn't sure of what to expect or even who was involved, as far as I was concerned this was just going to be another typical modern Batman story arc that just left a bitter taste in my mouth afterwards, boy was I wrong. Not wanting to spoil the story for anyone I am choosing to not give away too much of the storyline, but Jeph Loeb (Batman: Long Halloween) once again shows why he is one of the best writers out there today. It starts out in a very usual manner, and soon it grows apparent that something strange is afoot. Rating:

Batman Hush vol 1 is the first 5 parts of a 12 part story that ran in Batman issues 608-619. It written by Jeph Loeb a writer of many DC and Marvel comic and drawn by Jim Lee who also has a huge list of credits to his name. It's a curious choice to have the first five chapters to this book, as this is a story that slowly unwinds. In fact it unwinds so slowly that by the end of this first volume of two, you don't really come any satisfactory cliff-hanger as very little has been revealed at this point. However it is a great story as we mainly get to see the story through Batman's eyes as things start off as a run of the mill affair of ...  Read the complete review

In the finale of the Hush series this is the most revealing issue yet. Sure it?s a little confusing at the start, with Robin, Huntress and Cat woman interacting in a way that?s not very clear, but from the introduction of Scare crow onwards the comics is REALLY exciting and good. The finish of this months comic is a real cracker with Jason Todd being announced as the guy behind Hush, the same guy who was killed over 10 years ago at the hands of Joker when he was Robin. The art in this issue as usual (from Lee) is excellent, with Batman being portrayed as weak and yet strong at the same time, and the build up of the current Robins character is excellent.
