Advantages: Superb storyline backed up by beautiful artwork

Disadvantages: Split into two parts

The first time I read Hush I wasn't sure of what to expect or even who was involved, as far as I was concerned this was just going to be another typical modern Batman story arc that just left a bitter taste in my mouth afterwards, boy was I wrong.

Not wanting to spoil the story for anyone I am choosing to not give away too much of the storyline, but Jeph Loeb (Batman: Long Halloween) once again shows why he is one of the best writers out there today.

It starts out in a very usual manner, and soon it grows apparent that something strange is afoot. A young boy is kidnapped and held for ransom by Killer Croc, while this may not be his normal crime of choice it is nothing that isn't possible. Batman has chosen to rescue the boy while Croc is distracted by the city paying the ransom money to him. While fighting Croc, Catwoman steals the money and takes off with Batman not too far behind; during the pursuit Batman's wire is cut, leaving Catwoman to escape with the money.

Putting the Storyline aside for one moment the art work alone is very striking and adds to the entire storyline in a way that more of the modern collections have failed to do so.

This story weaves through the DC Universe, from Poison Ivy to Superman are involved one way or another, making this a book that is impossible to stop reading. At the end of the book it leaves you wanting to know what happens, meaning you have to buy the second volume, but this is just another sign of a really well written story.

Probably the best Batman storyline in a long-time with gorgeous artwork makes this book a MUST-HAVE for Batman fans and newbies alike.

Summary: A modern Batman story as well written as the classics
