The amount of ink dedicated to the Beatles since the band broke up 30 years ago is staggering, especially when you consider that they were only in the greater public conscious for about seven years. Since the band's break-up, various members have had differing degrees of accessibility to the press and public, often providing conflicting versions of their history with the band and what caused its breakup. In The Beatles Anthology, the three remaining Beatles (George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr) combine with excerpts from interviews with John Lennon to tell the history of the band's rise and fall in their own words. ... Presented as the definitive chronicle of the Beatles career - this bloke largely succeeds - lavishly presented in hardback, with beautiful colour photographs, this is perhaps the definitive Beatles coffee table book. While there have been a staggering amount of books released on the Beatles since the 60's, this one takes a different approach - in the form of interviews with the band, spliced together to follow the narrative of the bands career. Seamlessly shifting from one Beatle to another, the band's story is recounted with grace & accuracy throughout. It works well as a companion piece to the Anthology DVD series, & the set of 6 CDs ... Did you know Ringo Starr did'nt play the drums on the single version of Love Me Do? Or that when Paul McCartney wrote Yesterday he originally called it Scrambled Eggs? Well these are just a couple of things that you learn when you read "The Beatles Anthology". There have been a lot of books written about The Beatles but this book is The Beatles in their own words. It gives you a real insight iinto what life was like being in one of the greatest bands ever! The good times they had and of course the bad, the singles he albums, the films, the drugs, the people that came in and out of their lives and naturally the fans! The book begins with a ... The Beatles Anthology will find its way into many christmas stockings this year. I saw this book in all the bookstores about a week ago but priced at £35 it is not an impulse purchase. I had an e mail from Amazon with this book on offer at half price at £17.50 so jumped at the chance to get my hands on a copy. The Beatles were my childhood memories of pop music & I still play their albums on a regular basis. The Anthology charts their rise to super stardom in the most fantastic detail with thousands of pictures, it contains everthing you could ever want to know about the greatest group of all time. This is not a book just of ... Read the complete review

Firstly, let me just make it clear that I am not a huge Beatles fan myself, but I do appreciate a good book, so I think this may have some relevance to anyone who falls into either of these categories. This has to be THE Beatles book written by the three remaining Beatles themselves! For fans of the group this is an absolute gem of a book, and weighing in at around 380 pages long, this really is a book to behold. Even if you are not a big fan (like myself) then there is still plenty to offer the casual reader, detailing the phenomenal rise to fame, and tracking every aspect of the glittering careers they enjoyed. Proving to be a true to life a history of the whole ... Read the complete review
