Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. I came across this set of books when rooting through the loft for my lost Pratchett books - and thought the covers looked interesting enoguh to read the synopsis. So, I did. And thought they were interesting enough to crack open teh first one. Which I did - sat in the loft. Needless to say, I didn't move from there for hours. The Belgariad, my introduction to David Eddings. When I first read these books, I was ten years old and just growing out of Redwall, looking for more adult fantasy novels. At the time, I adored them. I read the series as quickly as I could - I literally couldn't put the books down, reading them in the car, at school and at home. Whenever I had a free moment, I'd be engrossed in an Eddings book. Why did I fall so completely in love with these books? Well, for starters, they're easy to read. The prose flows smoothly. I first picked up Pawn of Prophecy in a library when i was about 14. I thirsted for good fantasy at the time, anything to divert my mind from the humdrum of school! I didn't actually realise until the final page of the book that it was but the first in a 5 part series - Ace i thought!, and immediately rushed to the library to get the others. Within a week i'd read the lot (i had a lot of spare time!)and was hooked. The storyline was brilliant: take an orphan brought up by his Aunt and Grandfather who later turn out to be Sorcerors, and meet all his freinds and new acquaintances who become inextricably linked with the plot.
