Advantages: Lighter Reading Than Tolkien..But Not Boring By Any Stretch..

Disadvantages: None That Spring To Mind.....

This was the first book that I read by David Eddings, and I must admit that I truly couldn't put it down! The characters are well described and their different reasonings easy to understand. A strong "family" link runs through the series; my favourite character having to be without a doubt, Belgaraths daughter,the sorceress Polgara; who certainly knows how to deal with the whims of her father! The emotional ties between all of the main players only served to ensure that I had to read all of these books as quickly as my bank manager would let me buy them!
As an avid fan of practically all fantasy storylines, I found this series to be of a lighter reading than say, compared with the classics by Tolkien; of which I usually have to re-read several pages to get either the plot straight in my mind or remind myself of who the characters are..(goodies or baddies!).
However, if one does not have the time to read "The Lord of the Rings", (which really shouldn't be missed); then perhaps "The Belgariad" is for you!
