Advantages: Approachable and easy to read

Disadvantages: may be frowned at by some of older members of the congregation

The Youth Bible, or New Century translation, is a very approachable, and easily understood translation, with a whole bunch of 'life application files' interspersed through the text, highlighting ideas and with discussion points for the reader.[Steve Chalke gets the credit for these] I use it with a group of 11 - 14 year olds, normally, but it also helps throw a little light onto the situation when we use it at home group with a bunch of adults. I've even used it for the main reading at church, and the vicar didn't object.
It makes a good present for a youngster becoming a teen, and moving on from children's bibles, to starting to develop their own personalities, and asking their own questions, and making their own decision on their faith.

I would have liked to have read a little bit more in specifics.

Is this a literal translation of the traditional bible, or is it the same preaching against homosexuality etc? Ohh religion, I think the Christian message is great, I just want a book that makes people think for themselves rather than having to take it as read.
