Advantages: Really funny with great illustrations, fabulous rhyme and subtle messages,
Disadvantages: None, the pictures are not very bright but make up for it in other ways.
This is a really funny book about a bull called Bill who loves fine china! He gets so excited whenever he sees a china shop, until he sees the signs upon the door..... 'Bulls keep out!'
One day he finally finds a store without the sign and he carefully creeps inside and sees a cup he just can't live without!..... This is where the fun begins!
platters flying, vases breaking, figurines into smithereens!!
Poor Bill, when the sales assistant spots him he says those dreaded words.... "bulls are not allowed in here!"
Just when things can't get any worse, three ladies totter in- all frowning from wig to chin!!
In a delightful twist, the ladies sympathise with Bill and buy him his cup and pay for all the damages too!! Bill writes a thank you letter to them and invites them to tea!
Of course they oblige and this time they totter in grinning from wig to chin!
A fantastic book with hilarious rhyming and wonderful rhythm throughout!
It has a subtle message of dont judge a book by its cover (excuse the pun!) as well as showing an example of kindness!
Although the illustrations are not that bright, they are big, detailed and done in a slight caricature way, making them really funny!
There is some debate about the origin of the phrase ' bull in a china shop.' One interesting theory is that in the 17 century when herdsman drove their cattle through the streets to market, some strayed and ran into nearby shops... one being a china shop! Lets hope they were made more welcome than poor Bill!!!
