Dear Fatty - Dawn French:
... ve always been quite a big fan of the BBC comedy television programme , The Vicar Of Dibley , and my favourite character was always Geraldine , the vicar. I thought Dawn French played the part so well , and since then I have always looked out for other programmes. I happened to hear that she had an autobiography out when I was flicking through a magazine which had all the latest book releases in it. I decided there... Chernobyl Strawberries: A Memoir - Vesna Goldsworthy ... Vesna Goldsworthy was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early forties she started to write a set of instructions for her husband so that he d be able to carry out all those practical jobs she d been responsible for in their marriage. It soon became, however, a memoir of a fascinating and quite distinctive life, perhaps a piece of writing through which her son, who was two at the time, could later learn who his mother was. Just on that description, "Chernobyl Strawberries" wouldn t be a book I d contemplate reading. However it kept cropping up in my Amazon recommendations and as a fan of things Slavic and Eastern European, the title at least caught my at... Robbie Williams: Somebody Someday - Robbie Williams, Mark McCrum ... strange how you leap to completely unfounded conclusions based upon a title. I assumed, quite wrongly as it turned out, that Somebody Someday would be a biography (being in the biography category enhanced this impression) which charted the meteoric rise to stardom, from humble beginnings, of Robbie Williams. A transition from nobody to somebody. Instead this is simply a tour diary, although its not a diary in the traditional sense of the word. Instead it s a series of observations from a bystander rather than a crew member on a tour which turned out to be anything but typical unless of course a documentary crew follow Robbie on every tour. Its not particularly insig... Read the full review: A short diary masquerading as a biography by moo2moo |

Gerrard: My Autobiography - Stephen Gerrard ... me it is difficult, very very difficult. A thinker as he is on the field and his book proves that he is more than that- a thinker and a philosopher too. Other wise how can one explain the passion, the honesty, his beliefs, his philosophy of life as footballer of the highest class and a true family man, who has not put either his profession above his family and visa versa. How many celebrities, forget about football celebrities, has been able to do it ? He has been able to balance these two so admirably simply because being a celebrity, a private figure he never forgot HE IS FIRST A HUMAN BEING and then anything else. No wonder human values never over-rode his fath... Read the full review: Autobiography, Gerrard not a Footballer. by roktimdutta |
