Now I am going to tell you about one of the best book's I think has ever been written and the amazing thing is that Sabastian Faulks has achieved what I thought no author could and thats to write a book that contains enough for every type of book lover.

Birdsong is essentially a simple story about the life of a man who after a bad start to his life thinks that he has found true love and companionship but what a ride you are taken on going from quite days out on the rivers of France pre-first World War to the rather graphic horrrors of trench warfare in the Somme and the muddy fields of flanders where human blood was as much part of the soil as mud and water.

This book is written with what feels like a real passion and for those who love love stories it is the best of all what with periods of forbidden love and rather graphic scenes in the RED ROOM of sex and lust when both parties know it to be wrong.
A love affair that surely has no real future but two people who are determined to try and live the way they want to and not be controlled by the untold laws of marriage and faithfulness.

For those who like a good war story and lot's of blood, body parts and the true horrors of war the main characther is taken from his normal life and thrown into the trenches in France and Belgium where he makes and loses friends and comrades by the minute, where the whistle to go over the top by him means he is sending his men to certain death and who knows even himself but how do you deal with something like that well Sabastian Faulks almost put's you in the trenches in this book and I must confess to having a tear in my eye just imagining the horrors of the War and the thing's that those poor men had to go through just to gain 10 yards of land only to get killed or injured two days later trying to hold on to the ground taken knowing that to run would mean certain death but to stand and fight may mean worse.

This novel is very poet
ic but not in a boring sort of way and some of the discriptive writing really does form images in your mind as to what it was like.
Even though this book is fictional you feel that the true horror of war is captured in this novel and he put's you right there as if a bystander in all the event inside.

Truely a must read novel not to be missed by anyone and for those who like war novels as I do bear with it through the first two chapters and it will really start to grip even the most die hard anti romance book kinda people as I was.
This book is available at all good book shops online and off at about £6.99

Excellent review, but oh how I itch to make editing notes! Might I simply suggest that you go through yourself to clear up a few glitches that made their way through? I don't mean any harm, it's just second nature for me to proofread as I go along and I spotted several typos in your otherwise excellent piece.

Hmmm - I might have to put that on my Chrismas list Barry. Mind you with all there is to read on Dooyoo, there's not much time left for books!
