Bleach is a very popular japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tite Kubo. Bleach tells of the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki after he obtains the Shinigami.

At the start of the tale Ichigo is just like any other guy except for the small fact that he can see ghosts.

The story begins one evening when a soul reaper Rukia Kuchiki enters Ichigo's bedroom after sensing large amounts of spiritual pressure, reiatsu. However she leaves quickly as a hollow has appeared in Karakura town and as the shinigami watching over the area she must dispose of the hollow. She places a powerful form of kido binding on Ichigo to make him stay behind however she is surprised when he breaks out using his strength alone.

Rukia fights with the hollows however she is injured and Ichigo's family is in danger. He is willing to do anything to protect them so Rukia says she will temporarily give him her shinigami powers so he can save them. Ichigo becomes a shinigami and Rukia comments how his zanpakuto is one of the largest she has seen, a shinigami's sword or zanpukto's size is dependent on their spiritual pressure. He defeats the hollow and his family are saved.

The next day he sees Rukia appearing to be a normal human at school. She explains she has temporarily lost her shinigami powers so he will have to fill in for her and do the work of a shinigami. AT first he is reluctant but after saving a small boys soul from a hollow he realises he wants to protect everyone and agrees to take on a shinigami's duties.

From then Ichigo learns how to better deal with hollow that appear in Karakura town and he saves Orihime, a girl from his class who loves him, from a hollow. The hollow is actually her brother who was a wandering soul after he died and was attacked by a group of hollow who turned him into one. He is freed from the hollow mask and regains control of himself long enough that Orihime can say good bye to him before Ichigo sends him to soul society to be reborn.

In later books the action increases and the adventure becomes more thrilling, I recommend Bleach to action and manga fans alike.
