Several years ago Stuart MacBride appeared on the crime fiction scene with Cold Granite, the first of his novels about DS Logan MacRae. This was an exciting moment - because these novels were set in Aberdeen, my home city. Nobody writes about Aberdeen; it's not pretty and it's not exciting. Yet here was a novel in which the city itself was a main character. The most recent novel, Blind Eye, was released earlier this year. It is the fifth Logan MacRae novel, and the poor DS is still dealing with incompetent colleagues, incompetent informers, and the Aberdonian version of the Mafia.
