The majority of the people here won’t have been alive during World War II. So what images do we have of that time? Air-raid shelters, buildings bombed, concentration camps, children being evacuated, Hitler? How different would living through it all have been to our isolated images? This is what a schoolboy called George finds out in the novel Blitzed by Robert Swindells. He is fascinated by WWII and collects models of military vehicles used at the time. I had a spare afternoon the other week and it was actually still warm and sunny, so I ventured into the garden, settled down and read a book I had been promising that I would read for ages. I am presently trying to read (and re-read) some children's books that I feel might be useful and entertaining. The books I had already sampled, by Robert Swindells, had been good and I decided that Blitzed would be a good next choice. My tastes at the moment seem to including quite a few books with the Second World War as a theme, so this would fit in with that ~ it also has a time travel element too, so that would cater for my Sci-fi needs. ~~~The author. ...
