Was it an ordinary balloon?

I am not sure. It was shiny, and squeaky. It got bigger and bigger. It never ever bursts the balloon gets squashed, kicked and stretched. Kipper attacks it the balloon is indestructible .I think it has magic powers one day while going for a walk with the balloon it rises into the air taking Kipper and the boy into the air up up up and down to land who know where? Its high in the sky with aliens to play with. Kipper and the boy get home in time for a tea of sausage, chips and beans. So never throw that old blue balloon you never know it might be magic.

Mick inkpen tells us this story in his book titled ?The blue balloon? It is a story I sometimes read to the children at work. This book is really about a boy and the blue balloon but Kipper the dog of many a Mick inkpen book is included.

The story is simple the words a few on each page good for reading with children and a book that a child will begin to read on his/hers own.
The illustrations are unfussy clear bright and simple the boy dressed in dungarees and a red stripy tee-shirt kipper the brown and white dog and a big blue balloon.
The blue balloon was published in1989 text and illustrations Mick Inkpen.
This book is a paperback price £5.99.


This is a good book for reinforcing colour blue recognition it is good read if you could have a blue balloon you can blow up and have as a visual aid to the story.

You could after the story either reinforce the colour blue by finding other blue things or by having a packet of balloons and having a game with the blue ones.

IF you wanted to add other colours after the story you could talk about the other coloured balloons you have. I think it is good storybook to have
