Blue Mars - Kim Stanley Robinson

The final 200 pages of this book are among the most rewarding I've experienced in SF. Haunting and hopeful, a tale of redemption and foregiveness, there is a touching maturity to the writing that is rarely reached in this genre. Its too bad you have to work through the first 500 pages to get there. With good editing, this could have been a brilliant 400 page instant classic. There is no otherway to describe Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy. It is simply some of the best science fiction ever written, and certainly the most comprehensive series ever written on the Red Planet. This final book wraps up the series that began in Red Mars, followed by Green Mars. The names of the books outlines the changes undertaken on the planet throughout the series which spans several centuries. KSR manages to blend the books well, yet manages to make each one unique in that they encompass an era in Mars' future history. His characters are strong and well made, and you never tire of them.
