"The Blue Planet" was a lavish, ground breaking television series shown on BBC in 2001. The series was narrated by Sir David Attenborough, and produced by Andrew Byatt, Alistair Fothergill, and Martha Holmes. The book is a companion to the TV series. The title "The Blue Planet" refers, of course, to how Earth looks from space due to being 70% covered by ocean. The world's oceans are so poorly explored that we know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the ocean bottom.
