Advantages: Great books for children
Disadvantages: Not one
How could you not feature The Famous Five, these books have been enjoyed by children for years and years and are still enjoyed today. Enid Blyton created The Famous Five; there were about 21 books in the series. The Famous Five are a bunch of kids called Julian, Dick, George, Anne and Timothy the dog. Julian is the eldest in the group and the more responsible one, Dick is Julian's brother, Anne is the youngest and a bit of a wimp and George is actually a girl, but she acts like a boy, she is Julian, Dick and Anne's cousin. In every book the famous five have these fantastic adventures, they just seem to stumble into them by mistake. It's like trouble follows them. In the first book Five on a Treasure Island, the famous five go to stay on an island which is near where they live in Kirren Bay. The five decide to spend a few days on the island, but soon discover that something strange is going on, they are captured by the baddies, they then escape, and inform the police and everyone lives happily ever after. These books are fantastic for children, it doesn't matter what age they are as long as they can read quite well, I promise you they will love these books, you've got to remember these books were written when this country was a lot different. These books were set in the days when a woman could safely walk down the street, and your children could safely play out, this adds to the appeal of the book. I have to admit I still have my famous five collection, and I do read them occasionally.
