Advantages: Well illustrated book that is shaped like one of Bob's tools.
Disadvantages: Not much text to read.
I bought this book for my eldest son a few years ago when he first started to like Bob the Builder. I have bought loads of books for my boys over the years and although non of them can read (my eldest is just starting to learn) I think books are very important part of educating them, I have spent lots of time reading books to them over the years.
I bought this book from Home Bargains and it cost just 99p, I think the price is what attracted me to buying it as I'm sure there aren't many Bob the Builder books you can buy for 99p. Home Bargains is a great shop for picking up books very cheaply. I have however noticed that this book is for sale at Amazon for 48p.
The great thing about this book is that it is shaped like a screwdriver, all little boys love to play with tools and having a book shaped like one is a fab idea. I think we also have one shaped like a spanner and on the back of the book it says you can get Bob's Busy Saw and Bob's Busy Hammer, I haven't seen these or I would probably buy these too.
The book is only small and it is a board book, I love board books for young children as they are much harder to damage and rip. The story only takes place over 9 pages. Apart from the first and last pages there are two lines of words, each which rhymes with the next page. Pages 2 and 3 rhyme, 4 and 5 rhyme etc......
"Got a loose screw?
With a turn and a twist,
Bob tightens it up with
a flick of his wrist."
There isn't much to read in this book and it takes literally half a minute to do so, but I think it is the fact that the book is a screwdriver which appeals to kids. The book is however very well illustrated and often young children are happy to look at pictures and pick out there favourite characters. There is Bob, Wendy, Pilchard and a few of Bob's machines in this book.
At just 99p I don't think this book can really be criticised, it may not be a story book and there isn't much text but it is made fun for kids with the shape of the book. Being a board book which is well illustated I think this book is great and I'll keep a look out for the hammer and saw.
Summary: My children love this book.
