Many will not agree with me, but I have to admit to being one of the "It's a conspiracy" believers. Trevor Rees-Jones book 'The Bodyguard's Story' has done nothing to dissuade me of this opinion. Trevor was, as I'm sure most people are aware, the bodyguard responsible for the care of Dodi Al Fayed and ultimately, Diana, The Princess of Wales, during their last weeks together. I knew, of course, that the book would not throw any further light on the mysterious circumstances surrounding the crash, but I still felt compelled to read it nevertheless. I was on holiday in Jersey when I heard the news of the Paris car crash. It came as a shock. More so when I heard who had survived. I live in Trevor Rees-Jones' home town. Although I do not know him, I did know his late father who was a very well-respected doctor. I am not a royalist - if I had lived in Rome many years ago I would have been called a Republican - but I did have a soft spot for the Princess of Wales. I wanted to read this book as I was out of the country when Diana was killed and when we got back everything was all over and I just felt so detached from everything. The only relationship I had with Diana was that of most people's experience ie through newspapers and TV. It did not diminish, however that although i did not worship at the altar of Diana, I admired her and as she was younger than me would always be on the periphery of my life , as some one who has come through the pop or film ranks to be an institution.
