'Bollocks to Alton Towers' could loosely be descripbed as a travelog. The author (and most of his friends and family by the sound of it) set out to uncover Britain's least known about tourist attractions. These include but are not limited to a pencil museum, a nuclear bunker, miniature naval warship reenactments, a tramp museum and underground tunnels for no apparent purpose. The book covers nearly 50 different attractions, spread throughout the UK. Each attraction gets its own chapter, which vary from about 4 pages long to 8 pages long. Searching for a little light reading for the Easter weekend spent away in Bristol, I chanced upon the cover of… “B**locks to Alton Towers - Uncommonly British days Out”. It also bore the legend “The Top Ten Bestseller”, so that probably explains the asterisks – Richard & Judy could NEVER bring themselves to say ‘bollocks’ at least on camera anyway. Earlier editions had the ‘unexpurgated spelling’. It’s published by Penguin, under ISBN 0-141-02120-9, and actually only cost me £3.45 in W H Smiths, which is strange considering the £7.99 official price.
