Advantages: Charlie & Lola
Disadvantages: Ending a bit flat
Charlie and Lola the ever loving sister and brother duo who children love to watch and read about. Charlie the older brother and Lola the younger sister team up again in this book which is another of my daughter's favourites.
Lola is dead set on making Charlie jump. He says he will never be able to so Lola embarks on a scary story one night when they have friends round for a sleepover. She tells of scary castles and ghostly noises but nothing is going to scare Charlie.
Lola is getting desperate, when suddenly the dog jumps on Charlie's lap and makes him jump. Lola laughs and laughs and says now she knows how to make him jump.
This is another fairly good Charlie & Lola book but nowhere near as good as some of the others. The ending is a bit weak in my opinion with the dog making Charlie jump and my daughter agreed with me without realising it. We had read the last page and she asked if that was it. We were both expecting something a little bit more at the end.
However, she enjoyed the story that Lola was telling and the expressions on their faces through the excellent illustrations that Lauren Child does. She especially liked the fact that they were both having a sleepover with a friend each and she has started asking about this for herself.
I try not to read the scary story in too scary a voice though as she does get a bit nervous if I put too much character into the books but overall this is an enjoyable read and not too long for a complete bed time story.
