Books For Children in general

BFC or Books For Children is a book club, that offer's a free book or free collection in return for purchasing 6 books in the year. This is a hark back to the seventies. There are plenty of other companies out there who give a free book and have no tie in's. I went with BFC (Books For Children) because of the initial offer, thinking book clubs no longer existed, or even needed to. The next two months of choice offers were extraordinarily expensive! So I hung on for the third month and received, (without ordering) a Winnie The Pooh book at £12.95 plus P&P. A courier can pick it back up but at a cost of £3! Useless, incompetent, arrogant and untrustworthy. Those are a few words that spring to mind. Have been a member for about a year and cannot get them to cancel as the books I wanted were always out of stock. Finally gave in and paid for the 4 books they managed to send. I received an email recently that I still haven't paid... They also erased all my past transactions from their web account management system. I joined Books For Children around 2 years ago as I love reading and wanted to encourage my eldest daughter to read enthusiastically also. I received a leaflet through the post with a great offer to buy 5 books from 25p each and get 1 free. Looking through I was amazed at the quality of the books on offer including The Tales of Peter Rabbit Complete Series for next to nothing, so I decided to join. I was searching the Waterstones site for some good books for my kids about myths and legends. I must admit i get bored by a lot of kids books, so wanted something that i found interesting too. i was a member for a while but found the additional charges off-putting. i didn't liek being committed to buying a certain number of books, and frequently found the same books cheaper elsewhere, particularly when you have to add the cost of postage. i was also sent books i didn't want as i often forgot to send back the form stating that i didn't require the recommended selection. i found that a hassle, and a little unneccessary. i also didn't like the fact that you were chrged to return a book. ...  Read the complete review
