 ... novel, I have to say that whilst he came very close, he just could not quite manage it. His characters are excellent. He paints a superb picture of the tortured Hawthorne and he creates a real air of mystery around his characters, with LeBrun being a good example. Even the smallest of characters are described well, such as Frankfurter and the plot is constantly developing. The denouement is suitably surprising and exciting. Jim Hawthorne is the new head of Bishop`s Hill Academy. The school is in trouble and he has pledged to save it, not knowing that there is something evil going on. A boy is found dead, but as time goes on, it is too late to stop the terrible madness. When I read `The Church Of Dead Girls` by this author, it swiftly became one of my favourite ever novels. I did not think it was possible for him to beat it and on reading this novel, I have to say that whilst he came very close, he just could not quite manage it. His characters are excellent.
