Advantages: Clerly explined, suitble for kids

Disadvantages: Not long enough

There are four sections in the book:
• Starting point
• Llandaff Cathedral School, 1923-5 (age 7-9)
• St. Peter's, 1925-9 (age 9-13)
• Repton and Shell, 1929-36 (age 13-20)

He talks about his first memorable moment, called "The Great Mouse Plot". Hehe, Roald Dahl was nasty from the start! Roald, Thwaites, and his other friends always buy from this candy shop. They practically live on blood and CANDY. He and his friends, despise this grouchy, old, skinny, dirty woman who sells candy. One day, in their classroom, they found a black mouse. AND just as they think of throwing the mouse away, Roald pops up, and stops them...thinking of the skinny candy woman. You should just read what happens next.

He also talks about his life at a boarding school. He talks about the evil headmasters, and the horror of it! The thing is, the school faculty love to punish and love to *cane* (meaning to hit with a cane) boys...as young as 8 years old. Ooohhhh...I can FEEL his pain, I feel his pain :)

AND, he also spoke about his vacations and holidays. I remember reading a day when he almost lost his nose -- his nose had been sliced off by an accident (can't reveal THAt here), and was hanging by a strip of flesh

One of the wonderful things in this book, is that you will get to see where he got his IDEAS! Did you ever wonder where his inspiration for "Matilda" or "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" come from? He got them from his experiences at school! I like it a lot when I read this book, and finally think, "HEY! So that's where his book came from!"

In BOY, Roald Dahl, talks to you like a close friend. He would share his feelings & his thoughts about his family, friends and the evil school faculty! He loves to talk about his mom. I guess he loved her very much.

Another thing I love in this book are his letters. HE loved to write his mother lette
rs from boarding school. Do you want to see how he wrote as a kid? You can here. You will see some of his letters spreadout throughout this book.
