Advantages: Good story, could be prophetic

Disadvantages: None

Brave New World is a sci-fi novel about a 'Utopian' society. Auldous Huxley wrote of a society where each person was bred to do a specific task and trained to be happy and contented with their lot.

Society is divided into classes with the Alphas at the top, the Betas as blue collar workers, Gammas as skilled manual workers. At the lower end of the scale there are Epsilons who are of very low intelligence and work in the mines. Everybody is happy with their lot as they can have what they wish for. The less intelligent ask for less than the others.

Just to make the whole thing go off with a buzz free drugs are handed out!

This novel is an old one now but I wonder if it is prophetic. It is quite conceivable that Western societies could go down this route.

But didn't Tony Blair say there was no class divide in this country? ;)
