Advantages: Easier to read than some of her other books
Disadvantages: Less depth in plot
The Breaker is Minette Walters' sixth novel.
The Plot
The plot of this Minette Walters thriller focuses on the occurrence of a 3 year old girl wandering around the streets of Poole on her own, and the discovery of her mother's body miles away. The police are quickly brought in to investigate the death, and suspicion falls on a young actor whose chartered boat is near where the girl was found as well as him being placed near the mother's place of death. As the story develops, the husband's alibi grows weaker, and then there is the strange occurrence that every time he picks up his daughter, she screams.........
My Opinion
As far as Minette Walters' novels go, this plot is a little less complicated and intrinsic as her other efforts. This has positives and negatives about it. Negatively, the plot appears weaker and with less substance, but this also in turn works to the positive which is that it is an easier read in terms of word flow. Parents of young children will appreciate the sentiments and fellings that Walters gives her characters in this novel, and the subject matter of dealing with children is handled very well indeed.
Conclusion
Less depth in plot, but easier to read.
I rate this book at 4 stars out of 5.
The book is available from amazon.co.uk for £5.59.
