Advantages: Brillantly written, explains so much that i didnt know about the universe, really makes u think.

Disadvantages: Some parts are really hard to understand.

This book is exceptional! Ive always thought Stephen Hawkin was a brilliant physicist, but ive never read any of his work before. This book starts of quite simply, with out peception of the universe, but it does get pretty complicated, unless u have a PhD in physics, which i dont. Although some of the concepts are hard to understand, others are just hard to get your head around!! It leaves u wondering about the universe, so much so, that for a weeks after i finished the book, i wanted to become a physicist, but then soon realised that i better just stick to my 3 AL levels for now! I have the illustrated edition, and the illustrations do help quite a lot in the understanding of what the text is saying.

There are 12 chapters, i found the two about black holes, worm holes and time travel the most interesting, but the prigin and fate of the universe is a chapter that kind of blows your mind, about how, when the universe starts to contract, things will move in the direction of more order, i.e now we drop a cup, and it smashes, and we can never get it back together again without using glue, but when the unvierse contracts, we will pick up the smashed cup, and as we do, the pieces will all come back together, as if the cup had never been broken!!!

The grand unification of Physics is a really good chapter, its about trying to make one rule, that governs the whole universe, which includes Releativity, gravity and the uncertainty principle, etc.

There is also a mini biography of Einstien, Galileo and Newton at the back, which is a nice touch.

Overall, this book is really really good, and id suggest you buy it, but dont expect reading it to be a walk in the park, it takes some thinking!!

The most classic of the classics i presume - A Brief History of Time is the most read popular science book, probably, and rightly so. However I suggest that people should attempt other popular science books as well - there are many good ones around on a wide range of topics
