Advantages: not overly complicated to read

Disadvantages: can take a little time to understand

Stephen Hawking, despite being confined to a wheelchair with motor neurone disease, is probably one of the world's leading cosmologists and theoretical physicists.

Hawking wrote "A Brief History of Time" for the layman to be able to follow. The book explores the nature of time and space in a way that most people can read and understand and serves as an introduction to today's important theories on the cosmos, and is a unique chance to experience one of today's most influential thinkers.

Hawking does not dive in at the deep end, but starts with the theories of such people as Galileo and Newton, and expands upon them.

Altogether an excellent book for all you budding astro physicists and starship captains. Well worth the read.
