Maid of the Mist - Colin Bateman
by sympatic - written on 28/01/09 (Very useful, 111 readings)
Rating:
things start to get both violent and weird. I find Colin Bateman books to be a wonderful mixture of dark comedy and well crafted plot lines and this particular book is no exception, Corrigan is an excellent lead character who is going through a bad patch after his wife left him but sees new hope in the beautiful princess. This is an amusing read and while it is not the sort of book that will have you laughing out loud it will cause you to have a few wry smiles along the way at the style in which he crafts some comedy situations. It is a little on the short side at just under 250 pages but it is an entertaining read and equally as good as his other ...

I Predict a Riot - Colin Bateman

thinking. Quite often, a crime novel will go through the basics of someone s thought, but leaves out the comedy aspect as it doesn t fit in with the book. Bateman, by giving us this darkly funny side, provides us with an overly long book that could have gone on for hours and kept me happy. The paragraphs are relatively short, keeping to 5 or 6 pages a chapter, sometimes longer. The characters lives all end up converging with each other more and more as the story progresses, but I have to confess that for the first 100-150 pages or so, I thought I had picked up the wrong book! It sets the scene with all the characters other than Mallow and Harrison, and mentions hardly ...

I Predict a Riot - Colin Bateman

Rating:
happy to visit. The days of random acts of violence are over and access to its beautiful countryside is now safer than ever, or is it? According to Colin Bateman the troubles may have ended, but this does not mean that there is any shortage of people willing to break a few kneecaps, especially if they make a little money doing it. According to I Predict a Riot people are not visiting the Giants Causeway or other areas of natural beauty in Northern Ireland, but areas made famous for riots and crime. Americans can travel all over Europe and see beautiful sites, but there are not many places that have the danger and passion of Belfast. With this in mind should ...
