Crowned Review Broken - Martina Cole: When You're At The Bottom, Up Isn't The Only Way To Go... (871 words)

The past few days, I have been behaving rather strangely. Staying up until past 1 a.m., going off to my bedroom at various points during the day and even missing Coronation Street!! Yes, you’ve guessed it, I’ve been reading another gripping Martina Cole novel! This one is called Broken and was published in 2000. It is a sequel to The Ladykiller (see my previous review on this!) and once again centres on the life of policewoman DI Kate Burrows and her boyfriend, Patrick Kelly. I enjoyed revisiting their lives and reading more about their family and friends that had featured in The Ladykiller. Broken is again set in Grantley, but Kate has to face a ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review IT NEEDS FIXED ALRIGHT! (1419 words)

Having read much in praise of Martina Cole's work, I felt it was time I sampled some of it. Yet, despite reading nothing but praise, I also felt reservations enough to err on the side of caution, so I duly paid a visit to the library and borrowed a copy of Broken! Now, for someone with my passion for books, the library can be a source of both delight and annoyance. Delight when I find a gem, then annoyance when I have to hand it back after the allotted time-span. However, there are occasions when I feel I want to see and read a book before parting with too much money. I decided this was one of those occasions. So! What's it all about? Well, we open with ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Broken - Martina Cole: A Glimpse Into Another World (831 words)

Where oh where do I get the time to work full time, look after three kids, keep my husband entertained, write reviews for Ciao AND read I hear you ask?? Lord only knows but something has to give, and it?s about time I packed in work and hung up my nipple tassle?s for a while to indulge in the things I really enjoy. Anyway, enough of the waffle, (unless you want me to indulge you in titillating tales of tassle twirling?..thought not), and onto the review in hand. Broken is the second of Martina Cole books involving DI Kate Burrows (The previous one being The Ladykiller, however, the latter does not have to be read to appreciate this ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

Based in Grantley a fictitious suburb of London East End, the story begins with a shocking and puzzling new case for Detective Inspector Kate Burrows. Two year old Jamie is reported missing by his mother Regina. He is discovered on the top of a derelict building that is just about to be demolished. A description of the woman who abandoned him to his fate fits his mother. 18 month old Christian is dumped into the back of a garbage disposal truck by a woman and shortly afterwards Caroline reports her two young sons missing. Witnesses to the incident describe a woman who looks like Caroline. Her other young son Ivor is still missing. The body of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Broken - Martina Cole: The Broken Story (422 words)
by - written on 25/11/01 (Very useful, 130 readings)
Rating:

As with all Martina Coles books, you can almost guarantee that they will grip you in such a way, that you won't be able to put the book down until you have reached the final page. 'Broken' is no exception, as soon as I found out that it was soon to become available, I pre-ordered a copy, and waited in baited breath for the book to come through my door. As with all Martina Cole's books, they are very easy to read and also very to get absorbed into the storyline. All of the books she writes have believable storylines (things that you know could happen in real life). I also find that because it is so easy to get into the story, it becomes ...  Read the complete review
