At the start of this biography, it reminds me just how influential and integral Britain’s top red brick unis are to BBC middle class comedy since the early 1960s. It reads like a Oxbridge family tree as the Cambridge footlights in the sixties of Cleese, Cook and Sellers handed over the mantle to Oxford in the seventies with the Atkinson lead Oxford revue. The first hundred pages are intimidatingly laced with names from the famous universities like Emma Thompson and Hugh Laurie at the top of the tree.
