The Jolly Pocket Postman By Janet & Allan Ahlberg First published in 1995 Hardback ISBN: 0434969427 CE Marked RRP £10.99 Over 4 million copies sold worldwide. Age group – Anything from 2 years upwards in my experience! It’s great to read aloud, but would be equally enjoyed by independent readers I think. * *The Story* The Jolly Pocket Postman is…you’ve guessed it….a postman! This is the story of how one day, upon discovering that the tyres of his bicycle were flat, he decided to walk to work instead and found himself in the middle of a wonderful adventure! Each Peach Pear Plum - Allan Ahlberg

Premium Review ...I spy Tom Thumb. (309 words)
by Celandine - written on 20/04/01 (Very useful, 409 readings)
Rating:

Beautifully illustrated, this board book has a lovely rhyming text and 'I spy' theme on each page. It is based around nursery rhyme and folktale characters. On each page a new character is hidden, to appear as the main character on the next. There is also a 'story' - Baby Bunting has to be rescued from the river (by the Three Bears), and ...surprise...at the end all the characters appear to eat plum pie in the sun. The characters are very cleverly disguised in each illustration, but are not too difficult for an older toddler to spot without reasonable ease. What stands out about the book, however, is its gentle pace, and the way the soft watercolour ...

Plum is one of the most unusual books for children that I have come across. But that's to be expected from this fairly well known author of childrens books, Allan Ahlberg and Janet Ahlberg. Husband and wife, meeting at the same course Sunderland to train as teachers, both went on to be a brilliant authors for childrens books. Allan tended to the writing as well as being a full time teacher and Janet turning her back on teaching to be a graphic designer illustrated. There has been no looking back for the Ahlberg's since there first book " The old joke book" was published by Penguin back in 1978 and I can honestly say I'm not surprised. Each, ...

Fanstastic stories Some of the words may be hard for younger children.

Funny, witty and great to read aloud! Nope...no...not a one!

Nicely written, good self-illustrations Will appeal to younger children mainly.

Continues extremely well from the previous book, is just as engaging Loses its seamless link with the Arthur myths occasionally, leaving you slightly confused
