Any parent who wishes to test their child's powers of observation - and indeed their own - might well invest in a copy of John Rowe's Can You Spot the Spotty Dog? It's a picture book without a story, presenting a series of large illustrations where various creatures are hiding, and believe me, they are well camouflaged. The book begins with a picture of a rocky, stony beach, and the text at the top right-hand side asks 'Can you spot the spotty dog?' At the bottom of the page we are told, 'If you can, turn over.' It might sound easy, but there is a polka-dot black-and-white kite demanding our attention on an expanse of sand, whilst the spotty dog is half hidden ...  Read the complete review
