Advantages: great illustrations, lovely book
Disadvantages: none
Can’t you sleep little bear by Martin Waddell illustrated by Barbara Firth Is your little bear awake? Listen can you hear your 3-5 year old child upstairs still awake, mummy daddy I can’t sleep, pitter patter footsteps coming down stairs mum can I have a drink pitter-patter back upstairs, dad can you switch my light on, mum I am hungry, dad I want you, mummy daddy, any excuse just to get you upstairs. Well I think its time for a story a comfort time a time to try and get your child to relax and go to sleep. I have a book about a little bear its called “Can’t you sleep little bear ” The story is by Martin Waddel The bear in the story does not like the dark. The illustrations by Barbara Firth are beautiful. It won the Kate Greenway medal and the smarties prize for children’s books and I like it so it must be good. This book was published in 1998 by Walker books it has 32 pages This book is available as a big book or a regular sized one. Priced £4.99or &10.49 I believe there is a teddy available that goes with the book. And it is possible to buy a poster from this book. I love this book, if you are parents you will know about the child who is not asleep, can’t sleep, won’t sleep. It is nighttime and big bear is trying to read his book sat in his red chair. When little bear calls down, “I can’t sleep” big bear takes little bare a small light. Little bear still cannot sleep big bear keeps taking bigger and bigger lanterns to small bears room. Little bear still cannot sleep. Eventually big bear takes little bear outside to show him the moon and the stars little bear reassured about the darkness by big bears company and been shown the moon and the stars eventually falls asleep This is a useful book to have either at home or in the classroom Key stage one learning the differences between night and day and key stage two reading ability. Thi
s boo k is non-sexist, non-racist. The illustrations in this book are gorgeous. Little bear is drawn cute and cuddly big bear a loving soft gentle bear the illustrations are soft gentle colours sleep inducing (we hope) . Thereis a poster available it is a picture from the back of big bear holding baby bear in his arms they are looking at the big moon in a blue sky there are a few stars in the sky with a couple of tree silhouettes and some bushes it truly is a lovely soft picture gentle and soothing would be good in a child room Thanks for reading I hope your little bear sleeps well tonight.
