What a brilliant book!!! IF you're a romantic at heart, you will love every minute of this.

The story is set in Greece, against the backdrop of war - the Greeks and the Italians. From this basis arises essentially a love story centred around the local doctor's daughter, Pellagia and an Italian soldier, Antonio Corelli who is billeted to Cephalonia, where the story is set. In the beginning, Pellagia is betrothed to a local lad, but as the war progresses, he becomes a bit brainwashed by the fighting, and changes for the worse. Then she meets Captain Corelli, a captain in the Italian army, and falls in love with him. Even though the war is going on, and the captain is the opposition, their love unfolds and you realise the captain is a gentle, intelligent and caring character. Won't tell you the ending, but this book made me laugh out loud and cry too.It is am truly wonderful book - it is beautifully written, and has everything you could ever want from a book. The characters are really brought to life, and personally, I was transported to Greece, in a different time. I read a lot, and this has to be one of the best books I've ever come across. It's definitely the best way to spend a cold winter's evening (with perhaps one exception!). READ IT NOW!!!!!!!
