Advantages: well written, historical, satisfying

Disadvantages: you may need a greek/italian dictionay in some sections

I couldn't understand it at first why everytime I sat down to read this book I got thirsty. Then I realised that this book was so incredibly sensual that I could not only envision the dust but I could also taste it.

The imagery in this novel was fantastic and characters so robust and complete. It gave me so many new experiences that I couldn't decide at somepoints to laugh or cry. You cherish the memory but mourn its passing.

The only disappointment regarding this work involves the film. I have at last, after much time, forgiven the author for letting the two main characters drift out of each others lives for what seems like 50 years but can not forgive hollywood for changing he plot.

Please read the book. There isn't a prayer in the world that would make me believe that a film could ever do this work justice.

Okay, okay, the bandwagon is getting a little full now!! Sorry guys I was at work when I wrote this and have loaned the book on to a friend, as if that weren't recommendation enough, I can't remember names worth a darn. I'll update as soon as I get my copy back. My apologies will have to suffice for now.

Hi femster, sorry to only give this an SU for now, but I got the feeling you could have said a lot more about this book, and by the looks of your style, said it very well, to boot. If you decide to add in some more information regarding plot and a little bit more analysis, let me know, because I would love to read some more.
