Advantages: Great story, which enlightens the imagination

Disadvantages: The T Rex maybe a little scary (But he becomes good!)

Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs is a wonderful children's book, which combines dinosaurs and pirates, a must for my four boys!

It is written by Giles Andreae, illustrated by Russell Ayto and published by Puffin. It can be bought from Amazon from £5.24.

The story is about a young boy named Flinn. He absolutely loves dinosaurs. It starts at school when Flinn is colouring in a picture of a dinosaur, and needs more pens. He goes into the store cupboard to get some and hears someone crying. It is Captain Stubble bawling his heart out, as his ship, the Acorn, has been stolen. By whom is the question?

The adventure begins, as Flinn is joined by his friends, Violet, Tom and Pearl. They stumble into Captain Stubble's world. Dressed as pirates, with Flinn as Captain, upon an old ship they set sail to try and find the Acorn and the terrible pirates who have stolen it. They soon discover that the Acorn has been stolen by none other than pirate dinosaurs! The dinosaurs sing their sea shanty,

"Yo ho ho!
Yo ho ho!
Pirate Dinosaurs
Go! Go! Go!"

A battle begins "CLANG! CLASH! SWISH! SPLASH!"

The book is fun and adventurous. The baddies against the fearless Captain Flinn and his gang. I would recommend it for four years and up. It is bright, well illustrated and totally absorbing. Pirate voices are a must when reading it. It is very interactive, and can cause fantastic discussions! The text changes on each page, with much emphasis on expression.

I highly recommend Captain Flinn to any young pirate and dinosaur lover. Captain Flinn also has another story "Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs Missing Treasure" to enjoy.
