 ... probably the fact that May's writing style in these columns is very much like his presenting on Top Gear. While I appreciate these are car articles he goes too deep into the mechanics at times and that becomes increasing more boring the further into the book you get. In fact as you read through the articles his writing style is almost identical to his spoken presenting style and as I read 2 or 3 articles I could feel myself drifting off to sleep. It would seem that being a presenter on Top Gear is a guarantee towards getting a few book deals and it seems a newspaper column. We've all become used to Jeremy Clarkson's compilations of his newspaper columns and now it seems that James May has jumped onto that bandwagon. Unlike his prior books this is simply a collection of his motoring articles from his regular column in the Telegraph. It's a recognized format now and May complies 304 pages of his ramblings on cars and subjects related with cars.
