BACKGROUND:
Short background / history on Ryan: He is an ex History Teacher and Stock Broker who made a lot of money who is visiting London and intervenes on an IRA attack on the Prince of Wales. The IRA take revenge on him and his wife and kid are attacked. He joins the CIA as an analyst in order to track down the terrorists (Told in Patriot Games).
The books then follow the rise of Jack Ryan in the CIA up to Deputy Director of the CIA before he retires and considers to go back into teaching.
THIS BOOK DETAILS:
This book brings Jack Ryan as an Anaylst within the CIA. The main story is about a US Spy within the Kremlin who feeds top secret information to the CIA, codename the Cardinal.
The book talks about a top secret Soviet base which is creating a Lasar weapon capable of killing satallites in Space, and this information is leaked to the CIA by the Cardinal.
The basic story follows the situation in Moscow of the spy, the situation of the Soviet Base near Afganistan and some Afghan fighters who plot to destroy this base with the CIAs help.
This book really brings the family Foley into the occasion much more as the main CIA spies in Moscow and how they cope with running the Agent Cardinal as well as the role that Ryan plays in saving this Agent.
ROUGH TIME OF STORY: 1980s - 1990s
VERDICT:
I throughly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an exciting, interesting read. Anyone who has enjoyed other Clancy novels, and particularly the Jack Ryan series will love this book.
I cannot recommend this author enough, he has kept me entertained for hours and hours and I always find that I can read his books again and again.
