Advantages: Great read, Early King

Disadvantages: Bit oudated?

One of a long line of King books dealing with mind- powers and such things as ESP or Pyrokenesis, on this part, Carrie explores the tragic world of a young girl who lives with a dominating mother and is bullied at school. King seemed to be fascinated with mind powers at this early time in his career, this appears to be a reflection on the thinking of the world around him at that particular time. Following the confusion of the 60's and then living through the maddness of the 70's, the world appeared to be waking up in some sense. Discoveries were being made all the time, more and more studies were being carried out on the biological front with transplants, new drugs, genetics, etc. It is no wonder that King was influenced greatly by such a decade. Books such as Firestarter and The Dead Zone show us this.

Carrie has the power to move things by will. This power lies completely dormant in her for many years until finally exploding out of her in a sudden flurry. It all begins one day in school, when during a shower, Carrie is enduring the usual torrent if abuse and then for the first time ever (remember she's about 18 years old in this book) she has her period. Her shock at this baffles teachers and becomes much to the abuse of her bullies, what they don't know that to Carrie, this hasn't happened before...what could such a phenomenon mean?

The book builds ever onward towards a startling and terrifying climax - shadowed by the occurance of the school Prom, in which Carrie is invited by a boy whom she'd never expect to go out with - where her bullies plan to dump a bucket of pigs blood over her as she sits as Prom-Queen...Little do they know of Carries powers...

This is King's first ever released novel and it paved the way for following novels just as shocking and original in concept, perhaps the making novel of his career Carrie is a little outdated today compared with his later Books but still gives us an insight in
to the pure original thinking of such a great author. Introducing to us those famous King

(brackets)

characters thoughts seperated by brackets, Carrie in comparison to Kings later novels shows us how much he has changed and progressed in his writing. One thing is for sure, his powers to tell a story have not disappaited at all.

Sorry for the low rating, but there was just too much about the plot and not enough of your own opinion.
