DooYoo understand? (The Catcher in the Rye - J. D. Salinger)
Member Name: yorkrap007
Advantages: No one understands the book, protrays the imaturity of teens, ironic (who's the true catcher) Disadvantages: everyone thinks they understand holden, everyone thinks they are holden
Everyone views holden as the depressed teenager that gets a bad deal in life. This is absolute bullshit. Hold Caufield is such a great character because he places himself in situations where trouble will find him. He purposely lives his life to appear sad and depressed, he tries to be the unknown hero that gets noticed and eventually praised. Thiank about it... yes Holden is upset that Allie died, but the reason he is depressed, and not merely sad is because he thinks that he should be. If he were really depressed, why not kill himself and get it over with, instead of finding stupid reasons not to do so. If hold would have committed suicide, then he truely would have been a depressed individual, but because he didn't shows his fradulent feelings and emotions. Those emotions only exist because Holden want them to exist. True depression is not wanting saddness, but longing for contentment. I'm done... and I know many will see my view as wrong, but who cares... it's my opinion. Summary: |
