The first half of the book is based around them trying to find out who could have seen them. the second is based around coming to grips with not following The Caretakers orders. I read this book when i was around 12 for the first time. I found it terrifying and had nightmares when i finished it. Premium Review Chain Letter - Christopher Pike: This book will give you shivers - one to watch out for (273 words)

Most people think that books cannot be in any way "scary", and so did I, until I read this book. ***The story*** (I'll try not to spoil it!) The plot of this book is quite closely related to "I know what you did last Summer" and very scary. A group of teenagers drive through a remote road and run over a man, killing him, they dump the body and all is fine. Then the letters start arriving forcing each member of the group in turn to perform a task a sick or often huumiliating task or "pay the consequences". The story does finally draw to a conclusion leaving you wondering how the writer could fit in a sequel, ...  Read the complete review

As with all of Christopher pike novels I have read this many times. The plot is gripping with many twists and turns. As the book is relatively short (only around 200 pages depending on issue ) I read it in a day. It is almost imposable to put down and you will find yourself burning the midnight oil to see what happens next. I bought this book on impulse years ago. I have been involved in chain letters before but none as traumatising as this one. For this was one which would bring severe bad luck to those who did not continue the chain. And continuing the chain was not just a simple matter of copying it out six times and sending to six friends. This demanded that the teenagers involved perform certain tasks. These started off as things like slagging off the teachers to their faces but later progressed (in the sequel)to things like burning their sister's entire arm. Failure to perform these tasks led to little accidents and, in some cases, death. A good read (if a teenage one) but not ...  Read the complete review
