The much maligned and often criticised for being "Over the Top" Erich Von Daniken has just as much to offer as he has to be dismissed. Without him the current mass of books about Ancient and Ante-deluvian civilisations would not exist. he is,single handedly responsible for the awareness that now exists regards Lost and Sophisticated Civilisations. Yes, I agree that some of his theories seem to be based upon fantasy, but, on the other hand, no person has been able, as yet, to come forward and offer incontrovertable proof that his theories are indeed fantasy or disprove them. Erich von Daniken's central thesis, which he has explored at interminal length in about a dozen books and TV programs, is that the human race is actually descended in part from extra-terrestial cross-breeding with native species. Yep, our forebears arrived here in shiny spaceships, took local wenches for wives and then look what happened... His evidence consists of looking at ancient scriptures, engravings, folk tales etc, and weaving them into this fantastic tapestry of ideas. Primary evidence, for example, consists of readings from the Bible (the book of Ezekiel, mainly), and interpreting this as evidence of the arrival of these creatures - who of course ... Chariots of the Gods is Erich von Danikens study of spacemen and their vehicles. Von Daniken was educated at St Michaels College in Fribourg, Switzerland. He always had an urge to find out the true origins of mankind. He began to question all previous explanations and researched the Bible (particularly Ezekiel), old relics of Mayan and Inca civilization. He also studied cave drawings in North Africa. He published Chariots of the Gods in 1968 and his theory that earth has been visited by astronauts from snother splar system became very popular.
