I Want A Pet - Lauren Child

Premium Review What Pet Would You Choose? (787 words)
by belfin - written on 23/06/07 (Very useful, 126 readings)
Rating:

*Background* Lauren Child is well known for her series of Charlie & Lola, which is available in the written form as well as being on the Cbeebies channel. This book is a one off, rather like Beware Of The Storybook Wolves and features her unique style of illustrations. *The Story* It starts with a little girl, who says, “I really want a pet. ‘Please Mum, can I have a pet?’ Mum says, ‘Well – perhaps something with not too much fur.’ Dad says, ‘Maybe something that lives outside.’ Granny says, ‘Nothing with a buzz.’ It interferes with her hearing aid. Grandad says, ‘Stuffed pets are very reliable.’ The pet shop lady says, ‘Goldfish can be fun.’” Each adult then ...

I Am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go to Bed - Lauren Child

Crowned Review Lola says she NEVER gets tired (1339 words)
by StampedingTurtes - written on 27/08/09 (Very useful, 80 readings)
Rating:

............ ............. .............. ............ ........ ......... ........ like this. There are also pages with conventional text use and text written in the milk glass or across the table. For the Child, this makes the book interesting to look at. Text can be mysterious to children; they have to learn how to decode it. The different layout of text in this book makes it interesting to look at for non reader, and for readers, it reinforces the fact that text still makes sense and can still be read, no matter how it may be presented before them. Illustration and backgrounds This being a picture book, the illustrations are central to the story. The drawing style ...

I Am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go to Bed - Lauren Child

Premium Review Nice Bedtime Story (339 words)
by wendybull - written on 26/07/08 (Very useful, 29 readings)
Rating:

This is my daughter's favourite Charlie & Lola book and one that she associates with her own views. Although some nights she is absolutely ready to drop off asleep in my arms, her final words as she is lying in bed will still be "I'm not tired!" In this story, the young brother and sister team are again trying to make Lola see things in a more sensible way and Charlie is attempting to get Lola to go to bed. Lola comes up with all manner of excuses not to go, from whales in the bath - so no room for her, through to lions eating her toothbrush and dogs wearing her pyjamas. The excuses are really well illustrated and my daughter loves to look at the wild ...
