I was on holiday last year and had finished the books I'd taken with me to read. Fortunately, the place at which we were staying had a book loan/swap service. This allowed you leave any finished books there [no point carrying them home!] and to choose another in its place. Of course it means that you're choosing books that have, effectively, been chosen by someone else, but it's a good way of expanding your reading.

I admit I'd never heard of Michael Connelly, but the plot summary seems interesting [though this can be a dangerous way to choose a book!!].

The main character is Henry Pierce, a computer engineer, whose company is working on a project to miniaturise even further computer chips: the aim is to build a complete computer the size of a 10c piece [hence "chasing the dime"].

As ever, the hero's personal life is not as rosy as it might be. He is in the process of splitting from his wife and moves into a flat of his own. On moving in, he finds that he keeps getting telephone messages for a woman called Lilly. Being an inquisitive sort of chap, he decides not to ask the 'phone company to give him another new number, but tries to find out about Lilly, who had apparently disappeared.

This gets him involved in the world of call girls and violence, and which eventually lead back to his computer research.

The book is essentially a thriller - though having a tech backdrop made it more appealing to me.

Summary: Good holiday read
