Cheeky monkey is a book I borrowed from the library to read to my grandson aged 4. Cheeky monkey is written and illustrated by Curtis Joblin. Published by Oxford university press in 2006. Curtis Joblin is the production designer of Bob the builder TV shows.

The cover a bright green with an illustration of a monkey with a cheeky smile hanging by his tail from a tree branch and the title CHEEKY MONKEY in red stood out caught my eye.
This book is 25cm square 28 pages long. Each page has any number of words on it up to thirty some as few as three. The text is large, easy to read.
The illustrations are super the animals in the book drawn simply and have really expressive stances and faces.

Now to the story, well as you can guess it is about cheeky monkey. It was a new day the jungle was quiet all the animals sleeping except cheeky money. He started the day with a banana then went on to wake up the other animals .First he played dot to dot on the sleeping leopards spots, "I’m telling on "you says leopard . "I don’t care" says monkey and goes on his way to play tricks on other animals throwing mud at dozing flamingo, tying elephants trunk into a bow. Cheeky monkey goes on playing tricks, each time, the recipient of his tricks says "I’m telling on you "and Cheeky monkey says" I don’t care".

At lunch time he goes home to his cosy quiet tree home where all the animals were waiting for him and so was his mum. She greets him with “not scared of anyone eh”. She makes him apologise to everyone and right the things he did wrong. The animal’s leopard, flamingo and elephant leave much happier and we see the backs of them walking away.
Cheeky monkey is grinning as, as when they walk away we see notes stuck to their bottoms. One note says dopey, one says I’m with dopey, flamingo’s notice says silly.
Cheeky monkeys mum has the last laugh as on the last page we see her and cheeky monkey walking away and on the back of cheeky monkey there is a note saying mummy’s special cheeky monkey.


This was good fun to read to my little ones. Mary
