Many people's perception of the Cheshire landscape is of rich pastureland packed with contented cows, quaint villages with black and white cottages, meandering rivers, and reed-lined meres. This is true for much of the county, but Cheshire is much more varied than this. Cheshire has rolling hills, and indeed rugged ones. Part of Cheshire lies within the Peak District National Park and at its highest point, the gritstone peak of Shining Tor, is 1834ft above sea level.
