Advantages: Short stories that are easy to read
Disadvantages: There are so many of them to get through
I stumbled across this book whilst searching Amazon for self-help books.
The title immediately caught my eye as i had previously heared about it but could not remember where.
Anyway, I ordered a copy and eagerly anticipated its arrival.
Chicken Soup for the Soul is a collection of inspirational short stories that will evoke all human emotion.
There are 7 chapters: On Love, Learning To Love Yourself, On Parenting, On Learning, Live Your Dream, Overcoming Obstacles and Eclectic Wisdom.
Each of these chapters feature short stories: some happy, some sad and some with a moral to inspire and motivate you.
I particularly liked 'The Rules For Being Human' which is what it says it is: a list of rules for being human.
Some of the stories are completely random and left me wondering what on earth they were about like 'The Bag Lady'. I just could not understand the moral behind it. Perhaps i'm just thick. lol.
I also really enjoyed the Eclectic Wisdom chapter whose stories left a smile on my face before I went to bed.
I found some stories to be motivational; for example, 'Willing To Pay The Price' and 'Ask, Ask, Ask'. These stories were about living your dream and the steps you have to take towards achieving them. A lovely little read.
Overall, Chicken Soup for the Soul is an easy-to-read and digestable book. The stories are not long and daunting and can be read randomly; I read a few stories before bedtime.
The book really helped with keeping my spirits up during the credit crunch whilst searching for a job.
Summary: A good way of lifting your mood whilst passing the time
