I'm sure everyone must know by now the story of A christmas Carol, so I'll not bore you with the details. However not many people know about The Chimes, this is the sequel to A Christmas Carol. Dickens objective to this novel was to celebrate New Year and make it better than the last. The novel which dictates New Years Eve and illustrates the influence of the spirits within the chimes. The chimes simply visualise shadows of what are to be if the continuation of the old year is to be made. This is a much underated novel and tends to be over shadowed by the much loved Christmas Carol. However its point is most important and clearly signifies the definition; to ring an old year out and a new year in. Summary: |
