Arthur C. Clarke must be the best known Sci-Fi author since H.G.Wells. To some extent this can be attributed to the success of 2001: A Space Odyssey, ironic in that many of the ideas for the film came from Kubrick. If all you known of Clarke is the film of that book then you might wonder what all the fuss is about. Rest assured, his writings (even that book) make rather more sense than the film does. Another well known fact about Clarke is that he was the first person to suggest Communications Satalites. In fact he was an active advocate of the idea, and deserves the credit for this.
