Mums, do check out http://www.acs.ucalgary.ca/~dkbrown/storclas.html. They have online classic reading suitable for children which might interest you and your bigger children. In fact it might interest those among us who are young-at-heart! The words used are simple and easy to understand. I have noticed that there are different levels though, so perhaps you Mums could first check them out to identify which ones are suitable for your children's vocabulary level.
